Our schedule had been cut in half.

We were moving TravelChannel.com to a totally new platform, fixing all the existing design issues and creating new, responsive mobile templates.  The only catch -- once the project started the deadlines shifted and the design schedule was cut in half.

Solution

It was time to implement a design system across the multiple sites in Scripps’ portfolio: Travel Channel, HGTV, Food Network, DIY.   Food Network and HGTV had already been through a platform consolidation process, but the design overlap between them was spare.  Consulting with the VP of Design, we decided to utilize component and page template patterns from the other two sites wherever possible.   It was a successful proof of concept on applying a master design system across Scripps.

 

 

 

Combining elements from each catalog where they fit existing content, and limiting new component UI design to a minimum, I made my adjusted deadlines with a beautifully realized new site, using most of the time to design mobile transforms for the existing patterns.

Post launch, overall site visits were up 54% and page views grew 32%.
